So what are these shows about...
  • The Simpsons (if you don't know by now... LOL)...an American animated sitcom created by Matt Groening for the Fox Broadcasting Company. The series is a satirical parody of a middle class American lifestyle epitomized by its family of the same name, which consists of HomerMargeBartLisa and Maggie. The show is set in the fictional town of Springfield and parodies American culture, society, television and many aspects of the human condition.

  • Once Upon a Time... (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED) an American fairy tale drama television series; In the Enchanted Forest, the Evil Queen (Lana Parrilla) interrupts the wedding of Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Prince "Charming" James (Josh Dallas) to announce that she will cast a curse on everyone and take away all they love so that she is the only one with a happy ending. Later, Snow and James become concerned for the child they are expecting and seek advice from an imprisoned Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle). He tells them that the curse will exile everyone to a new world and their only hope is the couple's daughter Emma, who will return to them on her twenty-eighth birthday. Just as the curse sets in, Emma is born and placed in a magical wardrobe that only protects one from the curse. When the wardrobe is opened again, the newborn has disappeared. Triumphantly, the Evil Queen tells Snow that the curse is taking them "somewhere horrible." Bail bond agent and bounty hunter Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison) is celebrating her twenty-eighth birthday by herself. She wishes that she does not have to be alone, and she is immediately reunited with Henry Mills (Jared S. Gilmore), the son she gave up for adoption ten years before. Not wanting to have a relationship with him, she drives him home to Storybrooke, Maine. On the trip, he tells her that his book of fairy tales is real: every character in the book is cursed by the Evil Queen to remain trapped by time in Storybrooke, unable to remember their true identities and forced to live forever without happy endings. He tells Emma that she is the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming and is therefore the only one able to break the curse. Emma does not believe him and returns him to his adoptive mother Mayor Regina Mills, who is the Evil Queen, and tries to leave town. However, she gets into a minor car accident as the curse prevents anyone from leaving, as Henry later explains. Although she intends to stay only a few more days, Emma decides to move in after Regina's antagonistic attitude raises her suspicions. She continues to run afoul of Regina and the conflict heightens when Emma becomes the sheriff's deputy. Flashbacks to the Forest show parallels between present events in Storybrooke and past events in the Forest. The power struggle between Rumplestiltskin and the Evil Queen continues in Storybrooke between Mr. Gold and Regina and only increases when Mr. Gold reveals that he can remember the Enchanted Forest. James's engagement to Abigail prevents him from being with Snow White. It is the same in Storybrooke: David Nolan/James, falls in love with Mary Margaret Blanchard/Snow White, despite his marriage to Kathryn/Abigail. The two are unable to deny their attraction any longer and start a secret relationship. The affair becomes public, and Kathryn decides to move to Boston and let David and Mary Margaret be happy together. However, Kathryn disappears. Shortly after, Mary Margaret's jewelry box is found containing Kathryn's heart. She is arrested for the murder, despite the fact that Emma believes that Regina is framing her. August Booth (Eion Bailey), a writer with a mysterious agenda and the first stranger in town after Emma, arrives in town and tells Henry that he believes in the curse and wants to convince Emma that it is real.

  • Chopped All Stars... all-star chefs compete on this special five-episode edition of Chopped

  • 2 Broke Girls...  Set in the Williamsburg neighborhood of the New York City borough of Brooklyn, the series chronicles the lives of two waitresses in their mid twenties—Max (Kat Dennings), who comes from a poor working-class family, and Caroline (Beth Behrs), who was born rich but is now disgraced and penniless due to her father, Martin Channing, getting caught operating a Bernard Madoff-esque Ponzi scheme—working together at a Brooklyn restaurant. The two become friends and build toward their dream of one day opening a cupcake shop. Among those working with them at the restaurant are their boss, Han Lee (Matthew Moy); Oleg (Jonathan Kite), an upbeat but perverted Ukrainian cook; and Earl (Garrett Morris), an older African-American cashier. Also featured is their neighbour and part time boss Sophie (Jennifer Coolidge) a Polish immigrant who runs the cleaning company Sophie's Choice. At the start of each episode Max is shown serving a table and at the end of each episode, a tally shows how much they have made toward their goal of $250,000.

  • Two and a Half Men (Now starring Ashton Kutcher)... The Harper brothers Charlie and Alan are almost opposites but form a great team. They have little in common except their dislike for their mundane, maternally cold and domineering mother, Evelyn. Alan, a compulsively neat chiropractor and control-freak, is thrown out by his manipulative wife Judith who nevertheless gets him to pay for everything and do most jobs in the house. Charlie is a freelance jingle composer and irresistible Cassanova who lives in a luxurious beach-house and rarely gets up before noon. Charlie "temporarily" allows Alan and his son Jake, a food-obsessed, lazy school kid who shuttles between his parents, to move in with them after Alan's separation/divorce. The sitcom revolves around their conflicting lifestyles, raising Jake (who has the efficient, caring dad while having a ball with his fun-loving sugar uncle who teaches him boyish things), and bantering with Evelyn and various other friends and family. Other fairly regular characters include Charlie's cleaning lady Berta and his rich, self-confessed stalker neighbor Rose who often sneaks in to spy on Charlie. Written by KGF Vissers
After the death of his brother, Alan Harper meets and befriends a lonely young man named Walden Schmidt who turns out to be a billionaire. Unable to afford his brother's home, Alan sells Walden the house, and as a way of showing his gratitude, Walden allows Alan and his son Jake to move in with him.

  • Mike and Molly...  Set in Chicago, Illinois, the series follows Mike Biggs (Billy Gardell), a police officer who's looking to shed some pounds, and Molly Flynn (Melissa McCarthy), an obese fourth-grade teacher, who meet at an Overeaters Anonymous group and become a couple. However, they also have to deal with the comments, jokes, and criticism from Mike's fast-talking partner Carl McMillan (Reno Wilson) and sarcastic mother Peggy (Rondi Reed), and Molly's mother Joyce (Swoosie Kurtz) and sister Victoria (Katy Mixon), Carl's Nana (Cleo King), Carl's girlfriend Christina (Holly Robinson Peete) and Abe's restaurant employee Samuel (Nyambi Nyambi).

  • Cougar Town... The first season premiere episode shows Jules while she examines her naked body in the mirror for signs of aging. Jules, now divorced from her husband Bobby, tries to re-enter the dating world and relate to her young assistant Laurie. Jules' best friend and neighbor Ellie tries to prevent her from going out while her son is constantly being embarrassed by both of his parents. The show was originally about older women ("cougars") dating younger men, as Jules begins dating Josh (Nick Zano) and Barb is often seen "hunting". Jules' relationship with Josh ends when he tells her that he loves her and Jules does not feel the same way. Later Jules begins a relationship with Jeff (Scott Foley) a client who infuriates Jules with his indecision. Her relationship with Jeff ends when the relationship becomes too serious for Jules who is not looking for anything too serious so soon after her divorce, whereas Jeff is ready to settle down as he has been "playing the field" for a long time. After her relationship with Jeff ends, Jules falls into bed with her ex-husband Bobby (Brian Van Holt). This causes Bobby's feelings for Jules to stir even more and he later tells her that he wants her back. Jules, however, tells him that she loves him but "not that way anymore" and that their happy ending is them as friends, raising their son Travis (Dan Byrd) together. Toward the end of the season, the simmering feelings between Jules and neighbor Grayson (Josh Hopkins) boil to the surface, and the two begin a relationship.
The second season follows the development of Jules and Grayson's relationship. In "The Damage You've Done", Grayson and Laurie decide to tell Jules that they had slept together in season 1, leaving Jules angry at Laurie, who had known that she was attracted to Grayson. However, her anger at Laurie dissipates when Laurie's boyfriend Smith breaks up with her, having realized that he didn't feel the same way about her as she did about him. Later in the season, Laurie rediscovers her love of partying and one-night stands. After Bobby helps Stan get into a great preschool, Andy and Ellie reverse their previous decision to revoke his title as Stan's emergency legal guardian in the event of Jules, Andy, and Ellie's deaths. Travis begins college, making friends with his roommate Kevin and starting to date a slightly older girl named Kirsten. When Kirsten gets a job in Chicago, he proposes to her in an attempt to get her to stay, which she rejects. Travis falls into a depressive funk, stops going to college, and moves into Bobby's boat (while Bobby moves into an apartment). Finally, he impulsively moves to Hawaii and gets a job cleaning surfboards, forcing everyone else to follow him. At the same time, Grayson brings up the idea of having kids with Jules, who tells him she can't even consider it because of her stress over what her only child is doing with his life. However, when Laurie convinces Travis to not let romantic feelings influence his life and to come back to Florida, her joy causes Jules to reconsider, and she tells Grayson, "I will go on any adventure with you."

However, their move to the suburbs has the daughter wondering if they just entered the world of The Stepford Wives after they see how "perfect" their new locale is, right down to the neighbors who welcome them into the cul-de-sac.

  • Modern Family (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED)... After 11 Emmys and countless belly laughs, it's obvious we're not the only ones who fell in love with this hilarious Modern Family
First, let's meet the Dunphys. Phil is the enthusiastic, "tries too hard" husband/dad who loves his slightly-uptight (but in a good way) wife, Claire, and their three way different kids. Haley is the independent, eye-rolling teen. Middle sister Alex is wise beyond her years and little brother Luke, well, isn't. Claire's no-nonsense dad, Jay Pritchett, married a much younger Colombian beauty named Gloria Delgado. Her passion for life has rubbed off on her young son Manny, who marches to the beat of his own drum, usually in a burgundy dinner jacket. Jay's lawyer son, Mitchell, embraced a major life change when he and his free-spirit partner, Cameron, adopted their super-cute Vietnamese baby, Lily. They're learning all the parenting ropes as they go. Fortunately, they have the loving support of their extended, eclectic, ever-funny family. As we already mentioned, Modern Family won 11 Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series two years in a row. We're sure the accolades, not to mention the big laughs, will keep rolling in throughout Season 3.

It is revealed that Elena is a descendant of Katherine, who eventually returns with plans against the trio. The series is set in the fictional town of Mystic Falls, Virginia, a town charged with supernatural history since its settlement of migrants from New England in the late 17th century. Other story lines revolve around the other inhabitants of the town, most notably Elena's younger brother Jeremy Gilbert (Steven R. McQueen), her best friend Bonnie Bennett (Katerina Graham), their mutual friends, Caroline Forbes (Candice Accola), Tyler Lockwood (Michael Trevino) and Matt Donovan (Zach Roerig). The town's politics are orchestrated by descendants of the original founding families, all comprising a "Founders' Council". Some of the founding families of Mystic Falls include the Salvatores, the Gilberts, the Fells, the Forbes and the Lockwoods. They guard the town mainly from vampires, although there are other supernatural threats such as werewolves, witches, and ghosts.

  • The Big Bang Theory (Highly Recommended)...  Leonard Hofstadter and Sheldon Cooper are both brilliant physicists working at Cal Tech in Pasadena, California. They are colleagues, best friends, and roommates, although in all capacities their relationship is always tested primarily by Sheldon's regimented, deeply eccentric, and non-conventional ways. They are also friends with their Cal Tech colleagues mechanical engineer Howard Wolowitz and astrophysicist Rajesh Koothrappali. The foursome spend their time working on their individual work projects, playing video games, watching science-fiction movies, or reading comic books. As they are self-professed nerds, all have little or no luck with popular women. When Penny, a pretty woman and an aspiring actress originally from Omaha, moves into the apartment next to Leonard and Sheldon's, Leonard has another aspiration in life, namely to get Penny to be his girlfriend. Written by Huggo

He is approached by Harold Finch (Michael Emerson), a reclusive billionaire who is also presumed dead and living under an assumed identity. Finch explains that after 9/11, he built a computer system for the government which uses information gleaned from omnipresent surveillance to predict future terrorist attacks. Finch discovered that the computer was predicting ordinary crimes as well. While the government was not interested in these results, Finch became interested in making sure that the crimes which were predicted were stopped. He hires Reese to act as the muscle and conduct surveillance. Through a back door which Finch had built into the system, the two receive a social security number for someone who will be involved in an imminent crime. Without knowing what the crime will be, when it will occur, or even if the person they're after is a victim or perpetrator, Reese and Finch must try to stop the crime from occurring. They are helped by NYPD Detectives Lionel Fusco (Kevin Chapman), a corrupt cop whom Reese coerces into helping them, and Joss Carter (Taraji P. Henson) who had originally been investigating Reese for his vigilante activities. Although Carter and Fusco are partners in the NYPD, neither is aware that the other is working with Finch and Reese.

After their mother's death in a suspicious fire that burns down their house, Dean and Sam Winchester live a life on the road with their father as they grow up. Years pass and the boys team up to find their father, John, who goes missing on a hunting trip. However, their father is not a typical hunter: he hunts supernatural creatures like ghosts, vampires, and spirits and he's trained his sons to do the same. Along the way, Sam and Dean save innocent people, fight creatures and ghosts, and collect clues to their father's whereabouts. Sam begins to mysteriously develop psychic abilities and visions as they travel. They eventually find and reunite with their father, who reveals that the creature that killed Sam and Dean's mother years earlier is Yellow-eyes (Azazel) and the only thing that can kill him is a legendary gun created by Samuel Colt. The season ends with the brothers and their father involved in a car crash when a truck hits the side of the Impala. They lay inside the car, covered in blood and unconscious.
    Season Two
Season Two consists of 22 episodes that aired on Thursdays at 9:00 pm in the United States beginning September 28, 2006, and ending May 17, 2007.
The season follows Sam and Dean as they deal with their father's death (he traded his life for Dean's with Yellow-Eyes after the car crash) and continue to hunt this demon, who also caused the fire that led to the deaths of their mother and later, Sam's girlfriend, Jessica. They have assistance from new allies Ellen, Jo, and Ash. Part of Yellow-Eyes's master plan is eventually revealed as he gathers Sam and others like him to fight each other, leading to Sam dying. Dean makes a deal with the crossroads demon to bring back Sam in exchange for his soul, which will be collected in one year and taken to hell. Yellow-Eyes opens a portal to Hell and as hundreds of demons and souls escape, has a final confrontation with the Winchesters. With the help of the spirit of John Winchester who escaped Hell through the portal, Dean finally kills Yellow-Eyes and the portal is closed, but the Winchesters and their allies are left to deal with the demon army that has been unleashed and the one year contract Dean has before he goes to Hell.
    Season Three
Season Three consists of 16 episodes that aired on Thursdays at 9:00 pm in the United States beginning October 4, 2007, and ending May 15, 2008. Originally 22 episodes were ordered for the third season, but production was halted on December 5, 2007, upon completion of the twelfth episode due to the 2007–2008 Writers Guild of America strike. The season number was shortened to sixteen episodes, with four new episodes airing in April and May 2008.
The season mainly focuses on trying to save Dean from his deal and tracking down the fury that was released from the gate. Along the way, the brothers meet Ruby, a 'good' demon, who has an interest in Sam and claims to be able to help save Dean. Also, they meet Bela Talbot, an "acquirer" and seller of occult objects, who is constantly a thorn in their side. The brothers eventually learn from Bela which demon holds Dean's contract: one being of great power named Lilith. Lilith takes Bela's soul after her contract expires but not before she has warned Sam and Dean. The brothers, along with Ruby, track her down and attempt to kill her. Lilith is unable to stop Sam due to his mysterious abilities; however, Dean's contract expires and his soul is taken to hell.
    Season Four
Season Four consists of 22 episodes that aired on Thursdays at 9:00 pm in the United States beginning September 18, 2008, and ending May 14, 2009.
Dean is rescued from Hell and brought back by an angel named Castiel, one of several angels who appears throughout the season. The rest of the season follows the brothers as they work with Castiel to stop Lilith's plan of breaking the 66 seals, which would allow Lucifer to walk free once again. Sam and Dean's relationship is also strained as Sam starts siding with Ruby over Dean. He also begins to give into his demonic side by drinking demon blood to become strong enough to defeat Lilith. He and Dean eventually have a falling out and Sam sides fully with Ruby in his obsessive quest to kill Lilith. Dean makes a deal with the angels to save Sam and learns that they want the Apocalypse to come in order to rebuild Earth as a Paradise. With aid from Castiel, Dean escapes and tries to stop Sam as he has learned that Lilith is in fact the last seal, but Sam kills her anyway, breaking open Lucifer's prison. Ruby reveals her true colors as a demon loyal to Lucifer and Dean kills her, but as the season ends, Lucifer's Cage opens and he starts to escape.
    Season Five
Season Five consists of 22 episodes and was rumored to be the last season, due to Eric Kripke's statements over the years that he had planned for the show to run for only five seasons. Despite this, Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles had contracts for a sixth season, and The CW renewed the series on February 16, 2010.
The fifth season revolves around the fight to stop Lucifer and save the world from the Apocalypse. Throughout the season, Dean and Sam battle both angels and demons as they fight their destiny to become the vessels of Michael and Lucifer. Unable to defeat Lucifer, they collect the rings of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, which act as the keys to Lucifer's prison. The idea of destiny versus freedom and choice plays a large role. Throughout the season, Dean, Sam, Castiel, and Bobby each have a crisis as they near giving up. However, through each other's support, they continue forward until the end. It is also notable that Dean and Castiel have an ongoing friendship during this season, while Dean and Sam initially grow further apart. In the end, after Sam allows Lucifer to posses him and he kills Bobby and Cas, Sam manages to regain control thanks to his bond with Dean and throws himself, Lucifer, Michael and Adam Milligan (possesed by Michael) into Hell to trap Lucifer once more. Castiel is resurrected more powerful then ever and returns to Heaven to restore order after resurrecting Bobby. Dean returns to his old girlfriend Lisa to live a normal life, but Sam is shown mysteriously free and watching his brother.
    Season Six
Season Six consists of 22 episodes. Creator Eric Kripke originally planned for the show to last only five seasons, but due to increased ratings from the fourth and fifth seasons, the CW network renewed the series for a sixth season. Kripke has not returned as showrunner, but still remained as a hands-on executive producer, leaving executive producer Sera Gamble to take over the reins.
The sixth season begins a year after the end happenings of the fifth with Dean living a somewhat happy life with Lisa and Ben. When a seemingly emotionless Sam returns to Dean, he is forced to leave his new life behind. Dean is forced to work with his grandfather Samuel to capture Alpha Monsters, they are unable to get help from Castiel due to a civil war in heaven, and cannot trust Samuel. Dean's suspicions are confirmed when he finds Samuel working with demons to activate the portal to purgatory. Dean finds that Sam has no emotion due to having lost his soul after Crowley brought him back from Hell, so he implores the help of the Horseman Death in order to retrieve it. In order to ensure Sam does not remember Hell, Death wipes that part of Sam's memory using a wall. The brothers discover Castiel to be behind the events of Sam's return, the Alpha Monsters and the portal to purgatory. When the brothers try to stop Castiel, he brings Sam's memory of hell back and goes ahead with his plan and absorbs all the souls from purgatory and pronounces himself God due to having had evolved beyond being an angel.
    Season Seven
On April 26, 2011, CW announced early renewals for five shows for the 2012 season which included a seventh season for Supernatural with 23 episodes. The seventh season aired on September 23, 2011.
Declaring himself the new God, Castiel goes forth to punish the followers of archangel Raphael. Castiel, however, inadvertently absorbed forces older than souls in Purgatory: the Leviathans that had been imprisoned there previously. Castiel attempts to rid himself of the Purgatory souls, but fails to expel the Leviathans, who subsequently appear to kill him and escape to wreak havoc. After discovering that decapitation and borax can wound Leviathans, the Winchesters target the Leviathan's operations. Bobby is shot and mortally wounded by Dick Roman, the Leviathan leader, but before death has enough time to give Sam and Dean co-ordinates to a field in Wisconsin. It is later revealed that Bobby refuses to move on to the afterlife and begins helping the Winchesters brothers in any way he can, unbeknownst to the brothers. The brothers discover from a Leviathan named "George" that the other Leviathans are building a research center to cure cancer in the field in Wisconsin. Sam later suffers a rib injury and his images of Lucifer get worse after Lucifer begins to torment and further haunt Sam, driving him to near insanity. Dean tracks down Castiel, who is without memories and going by the name Emanuel. Cas, Meg the demon, and Dean return to the asylum in the hopes Cas will regain his memories and save Sam. Cas's memories are returned, but he is unable to save Sam. Castiel absorbs Sam's 'madness' and his hallucinations of the devil. The brothers reunite leaving Meg behind to protect Castiel from other demons who wish to use his powers. Meg is later shown being hired at the institute where the Brothers leave Cas. The brothers meet up again with a fellow hunter, Garth, to battle a Japanese demon known as a Shōjō. After the group kills the creature, Dean starts to believe Bobby' ghost may have been helping him along the way. Bobby is soon revealed to be a ghost, but Sam and Dean are unable to see him.
